The Only Thing That Matters In Writing
When you sit down to sip a cup of coffee and binge read all your saved articles, you are looking for a great time spend. Some articles might help you achieve a task, some might motivate, and most of them will make you smile a little because of the story it takes you on.
Either way, when you are done reading, you aren’t impressed by the number of words they used to make a sentence. Or the complicated words they used to impress you.
The thing that hits you is what you wanted to be conveyed. The length of the articles doesn’t matter too.
It all depends.
FONT
Writing is a job in itself because most of the times, you are forced to write something which you know isn’t fantastic. But you do it anyway because you need to keep practicing the skill daily.
On the parallel, unless you are reading a specific type of article, you are looking something to make an impact.
And that’s what as a writer you should strive for. To make an impact. So the type of font used, the design of the website might become secondary if the writer can make an impact.
BASIC GRAMMAR
Yes, you need to make sure the basic grammar is in place. And as a writer, you need to avoid typos as per your knowledge. Apart from that, if you want, then that is a bonus.
And you will improve upon it over time. But a basic understanding of grammar for easy reading and ability to write articles which has something to say is enough for you to write and publish.
Also as a reader, you read articles and if the flow is efficient and you are taken on a journey with a solid conclusion or ‘call to action’ then a few typos or commas are okay. And as you can see — some rules like avoid starting your sentence with ‘and’ can be avoided and it doesn’t make big of a difference.
YOUR IDEAL AUDIENCE
The first goal of writing is to write for yourself, to make an impact and have a clear thinking process. Once you develop an audience, they will have the feedback loop, and accordingly, you can adjust — if they are a big chunk of your audience.
Else, keep writing your heart out.
And if your writing is often critiqued, doing basic grammar shuts most of the naysayers.
So my golden rule is to start writing and keep at it — and read more of the writing style you enjoy. And slowly, your writing will replicate the same style over the years.
Keep reading, keep writing. Your voice, persistence, and care is needed.
AND YES
I ran the article on Grammarly. But I didn’t accept all the suggested correction. I deliberately kept things like some repetition, using ‘and’ in beginning and style of writing. Because it’s mine.
Find out yours and break those rules which doesn’t make much sense to you. Or you just don’t care.
