I first encountered the Sherlock Holmes story as a chapter in my English book. And I was hooked. My teacher told me that there are many more stories about Holmes and Watson. You should check out the library for that. And so my friend and I did — we found a short book with about ten Sherlock stories and were hooked.

Since our library only had one book, my friend took it and read it for two weeks. Then he gave the book to me. As for my vocabulary, the book took a lot of work to read. I often had to make up meanings of words to make the narrative understandable.

Fast-forward and I have read the whole book. Each story made me read more. The way Sherlock deduced everything was magical. I was transported to the location and visuals of Sherlock doing all the things laid down in the book. Words are magical, but our ability to immerse ourselves in and visualize things is more magical.
